A triterpene saponin with diverse biological activities; inhibits the cytopathic effects of poliovirus type I and HSV-1 in the filter paper disk assay at 40 µg/disk; active against various Candida species (MICs = 80-160 µg/ml); induces apoptosis in HepG2 cells at 10 and 13 µM; induces contractions in rat uterus preparations at 7.5 µM
